Plasma What?
What is Plasma Fibroblast you ask? I had no idea when my sister first told me about it… she didn’t know exactly what it was or how it worked… she just knew it was an alternative to Botox and could last up to FIVE years! Yes, you read that right… FIVE years! I was asking for her esthetician’s number right then and there! No research, no questions, no thinking about it! Ha ha, I was excited!
Once I had my appointment booked, I did what every other rational person would do… look on Pinterest, of course!
Here’s what I found out:
Skin Tightening
Plasma Fibroblasting is non-surgical skin tightening. It’s one of the only procedures that uses plasma to instantly tighten and eliminate loose skin. It can be used for treatments such as eye lifts, pigmentation removal, face and neck lifts, tummy tightening, scar reduction, and stretch mark reduction. The average recovery time is only 7 days and the actual treatment is only about an hour.

The Device
The device used for the treatment delivers energy in the form of plasma. It rejuvenates skin by improving facial lines and wrinkles and other irregularities. It works by creating a series of dots that run alongside the tension lines on the skin. Believe me, by dots, I really do mean perfectly round dots. And lots of them! These dots scared kids for a few days!
The device involves the ionization of gases from the atmospheric air to create micro electrical discharge causing sublimation, which is the process of turning solid into gas), of the excessive superficial layer of skin. It triggers a contraction of the skin fibers and creates a tightening effect. Lots of science, lots of effects!
The results are seen almost immediately. The best results are seen at about 4 weeks after the treatment, although, depending on the person, weeks 3-6 may show the best results. Most people only require one treatment, however, some may need 1-3.
My Treatment
I had talked to my esthetician a few weeks before and she told me to start taking Arnika a few days before the treatment. I did not find any at Walgreens or King Soopers, but I finally found some on Amazon!
When I got to the esthetician, the first thing she did was, of course, take pics! Up close and personal! Ugh… the tiny, but very noticeable wrinkles were unbearable! I was so excited to get something done about this. It was worth it to me to do this, as the effects last so much longer than Botox!
She applied the anesthetic cream on the areas she was planning on zapping. She wrapped the cream on my face with plastic wrap and sent me on my way to the waiting area. While I was waiting, another client came in and on her way out told me that I was going to LOVE the results! I was so excited!
When I made my way back to the table, I laid back and closed my eyes. I was ready! Scared, but ready. I couldn’t feel my face, which really told me I was ready! 3-2-1… here we go!
The esthetician pulled out the pen and away she went. As I said, I couldn’t feel a thing, but boy, did I smell it! The first “dot” was done and I could smell the “burning”. It seriously gave me anxiety! She kept blasting my face, starting with around my mouth and worked her way under my eyes, and then between my forehead. I slowly began to relax and poof… before I knew it she was done!
Wow! You should have SEEN my face! The bright red dots were sooooo bright! It was a shock for sure, and yes… more pics! Ugh…
On the way home, I put on the biggest sunglasses I could find and crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t get pulled over! I wanted to call and warn my daughter about how I looked, but I didn’t have the chance. I got caught up on the phone. Anyway… she was shocked. Initially, you really don’t want to be seen in public! I immediately iced my face and just relaxed. I had to stay out of the public!
The next day my face was really swollen and uncomfortable. The day after that my dots began to scab and a few days later they all fell off! It is VERY important that the scabs are left alone to fall off naturally. I was amazed at how quickly the healing process began and it was unbelievable to see my skin transform so quickly. What Should I Expect Now?
The results vary from person to person, depending on many factors. My esthetician told me that I will see the best outcome at around 12 weeks after the treatment! It has only been 3 weeks!
Is it safe and are there any side effects?
Carbon crusts, a tiny superficial dots which form directly on the skin are part of normal healing process and when correctly treated with after-cream will cause no threat and fall off 5-7 days after treatment. Mild swelling is expected during first 3 days and usually entirely gone by day 5.
The procedure isn’t without side effects. Examples of side effects include:
- redness
- swelling
- mild hypopigmentation (light spots)
- hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
- skin peeling and crusting
You shouldn’t receive plasma fibroblast therapy if you:
- are breastfeeding
- are pregnant
- have an allergy to topical anesthetic preparations
- have an infection at the treatment site
- are using isotretinoin for wrinkles or acne
If you have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring, it’s recommended that you approach plasma fibroblast therapy with caution.
